partners with ABS-CBN Foundation |
As a response to the ever-growing
need for education infrastructures, and cognizant
of the excellent concept behind ABS-CBN
Foundation’s E-Media Program, the
PACT donated a complete Educational
Television (ETV) Educational Package to Nasugbu
West Central School in Batangas (NWCS). The official
turnover ceremony was held last August 13,
led by Ms. Zen Dimalanta (Program Director
of E-Media), Dr. Myrna Rodriguez (current PACT President),
and Prof. Luchie Ilao (immediate past-President
of PACT who also happens to be an alum
of the beneficiary school), and attended by several
PACT and local DepED and school officials and teachers.
Members of the NWCS community very warmly expressed
their thanks as they received the complete set of
DVD materials, which include all episodes of the
award-winning ETV shows such as Sineskwela,
MathTinik, and Hirayamanawari, plus a brand
new flat-screen 32-inch Samsung TV unit. Truly,
there is reason for the NWCS people to be happy
since, being one of the biggest if not the biggest
school in the division, the ETV materials could
help address the demand for teaching tools particularly
for the improvement of science literacy, an advocacy
that the PACT is quite passionate about.

Helps Rizal |
The association, in collaboration with the
Rizal Education Development Advisory Council (PREDAC)
and the Department of Education-Division of Rizal
recently trained 107 public school chemistry teachers
of the province, representing 56 schools from the
two congressional districts. The five- Saturday
program conducted from July to
August was aimed at uplifting the content
competencies of the participants. Notwithstanding
distances they had to travel every time, the participants
truly appreciated all the learnings they got from
trainers composed of professors from UPLB,
UP-Manila, UST, FEU, and DLSU-Manila. The
program was made even more remarkable by the fact
that all these trainers spent half of their weekends
to share their talents, knowledge, and expertise
with fellow educators without any form of remuneration;
a clear manifestation of their love for our country
and people.

The association’s
newly-elected officers, headed by its new President,
Dr. Myrna S. Rodriguez of UP-Los Banos,
took their oath last August 8, 2009 at Marciano’s
in Greenbelt, Makati City. Immediately
after the ceremony, the new board immediately buckled
down to business as they discussed plans for upcoming
activities. Let us throw our full support to them
as they engage in upholding the welfare of all the
members of our beloved organization.

| ___EAT
to LIVE: The SECOND SERVING |
February
23, 2008
The PACT National Convention
last May 2007 was just not enough to
whet the appetite of our dear member-teachers. They
were too hungry not to go for a second serving.
Thus for this year’s Chemistry Week
celebration, we held a follow-up seminar
emphasizing the vital role of chemistry in food
and nutrition. The one-day event featured lectures
by Mr. Ramon Tan, president of Carica Herbal Food
Products, about “The Science and Chemistry
of Herbal Foods and Supplements” and
Dr. Marissa Noel, associate professor of chemistry
at DLSU-Manila, as to why “In Cookery,
Everything is Chemistry”. Workshops on
“Low-Cost Instrumentation” and “Determination
of Antioxidant Content and Activity in Fruits”
were conducted by Luciana Ilao of UP-Manila
and Gideon Legaspi of DLSU-Dasmarinas,
respectively. The tremendous attendance was excellently
taken by the fully-equipped Foundation for
Upgrading the Standard of Education, Inc.’s
Learning Center for Teachers along Roxas Boulevard.
We’re now so excited for the
“dessert”!
